Famous for its low budget special effects, haunting theme music by Ron Grainer and Delia Derbyshire of BBC Radiophonic Workshop fame and making generations of kids hide behind the sofa, the show is a significant part of British popular culture.

Currently played by David Tennant, the Doctor usually travels in the TARDIS with a companion, the most recent being Donna Noble, played by Catherine Tate. Other companions have included Rose Tyler (Billy Piper) and Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) and Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen).

Series 5 will star new Doctor Matt Smith and air in 2010 after a number of specials featuring David Tennant, the next being titled 'The Waters of Mars,' which will air on the 15th of November, 2009.
